We love traveling through Buffalo Lake Campgrounds - great snow and beautiful scenery.

What a day! There are no words in the English language to describe how perfect snowmobiling was today! Brilliant blue skies, comfortable temps in the mid-20s, light traffic, and pristinely groomed trails.

I had to work this morning, but we took off as soon as I got home. Today's destination was Lake Tomahawk. I usually take the route through the woods and I usually regret it. So today I decided to take Trail 70 W to the railroad grade intersection in Woodruff.

What a great idea! All in all the trails are fairly straight with few hard curves to negotiate. On top of this - they were perfectly groomed all the way into Lake Tom. There wasn't a piece of ice in sight. I could power through the turns as the skis grabbed the snow and hugged the edges. What fun!

We did encounter a couple of deer but I did expect more. Off trail terrain has easily 4' of snow making the trails very attractive for the deer. There was a black squirrel that did hop out on the trail in front of my sled and he ran his little legs as fast as he could until he flew up a bank. Whew!

Once in town, we watched a couple of guys clear the snow off Shamrock's flat roof. We stopped in at Smiley's for lunch - pretty busy place and they seemed a bit overwhelmed. I had a cup of chili and Zesty Green Beans. Doug had a bacon cheeseburger. Nice to be able to get iced tea on the gun!

We returned home by the same route and made a stop at the Kaig Stand that is just down from our home. There were several other snowmobilers there and everyone was animated because of the great conditions.

Oh yeah, there still is a LOT of great riding ahead until the trails close April 1. Temperatures are going to be in the 30s and maybe a couple of 40s next week. The generous snowfall should be able to stand up warmer weather - fingers crossed!

I can promise better eagle pictures will come. It was just the perfect ending to a perfect day

Soon I will be spending a lot of time writing about my upcoming adventures! Starting March 30 I will be heading south to the sunny shores of the Gulf of Mexico on the Florida/Alabama border. I am loading up my minivan with bedroom appointments and will be hauling all my camping stuff in a small cargo trailer I will be pulling.

This is a trip I used to dream about from my desk at work back in those tough days when my job ruled my life. To be able to jump in my vehicle and take off for parts determined by a whim sounded like heaven!

Packing has begun. So much to remember!

Doug is not fond of traveling so he told me to go ahead and do it! I have been traveling alone on business since I was 22 - so why not travel for fun? And that is what I am going to do! Fortunately, I have friends in the area for my initial destination. I am also going to hook up with my good friend, Linda, in New Orleans for a few days! I can't wait!

Our pizza should be here soon so I am going to say so long for now!
